Same anon as just above - as someone who only watches the movies (like the VAST majority of the audience), I felt that TLJ actually increased the importance of Rey and Poe meeting. A good 90% or more of viewers do not give a shit about the novelizations. If the filmmakers didn't care about them meeting, they would have been fine leaving it to the book. They made a point of putting in those few seconds of screentime. That to me is not retconning but actually putting it into the only canon that matters. That to me suggests they've decided that their meeting is actually very important.
