Aww, OP. It's alright. Enjoy what you want. You're aware of the criticism, which I think is better than pretending things are fine, and you still enjoy it (especially since it has such a meaning for you).

Why is everyone riding the Connor train when there's Marcus?

RE: Connor

Some people are blaming it on fans latching onto the pretty white boy, but I think it has a lot to do with Connor just being a more interesting character than Markus or Kara. His moral choices feel heavier, his role as a "hunter of his own kind" detective is more engaging than being a child's guardian or a messiah archetype, and he's the last to become a deviant which means his inner conflict lasts the longest. Plus, his introduction is the strongest and opens the entire game, and the scene in the Cyberlife HQ where he has to fight another version of himself is the coolest out of the three climaxes.

However, the weird hyper-fixation that some of the fandom has toward RK900 and Gavin Reed is entirely based on them being pretty white boys.

Ahhh. I could see, based on plot, why all the Connor hype. I haven't played and found the guy in the middle to be more attractive (physically). But I can also see the pretty white boy hype.

re: Markus vs. Connor. I'm still disappointed David Cage didn't do anything with both of them being prototypes. The fight at the end if Connor doesn't turn deviant is the closest we get.

I can't say that Connor is more or less interesting than Markus or Kara. I think it's more that we had more interaction with Connor than the other two. As for his moral choices feeling heavier? Nah. David Cage tried to make it seem like his moral choices were heavier, but in reality, they really weren't.

because Markus is boring, has a shit romance, his side characters outside of simon are awful, has the whole unfortunate oppression story, and is just a flat character all around. Connor's has the most dynamic, engaging story, good chemistry with hank, lots of fun improv that his actor did, is divorced from any of the problematic story telling, and is probably the best of the bunch. Potentially related is that Jessie Williams is an asshat and Bryan Dechart, while an airhead, is a genuine good guy who knows how to get an audience. Anyways it's universally agreed Connor has the best story and that the quality jumps between his and Markus/Kara story is noticible and Markus is considered the worst of the three while Kara is boring but inoffensive at best.

It certainly doesn't help that he probably cheated on his ex wife with his in game love interest. But wanting to pay as little child support as possible while he makes a half a million a month was most likely the bigger hit to his reputation.
