what? what views of the Attack on Titan creator were controversial?

So, I read that he had "problems" with Japan's role in the world. He liked it better when they were trying to be an empire and the titans represent places like the US and other countries that are tearing Japan apart(?). Also, read something about how the walls represent Japan's cowering nature--how it hides behind them from the outside world. And I think there was something about how the protags all had names of famous nazis? Tbh, I don't remember the show much. I thought it was overrated and never gave it much thought. Like OP, I pretty glad people don't seem to care as much about it now.

But I didn't get the sense that the secret was complaining about what is popular despite being problematic so much as OP is complaining about how some things just get so much attention that they are sick of seeing them and hope they die soon. I can relate, tbh, especially when people don't bother to tag their stuff so I can block it.

DA

The only one I know of who's named after a famous Nazi was Erwin Smith, who is named after Erwin Rommel, a nazi who was part of the 20 July plot and tried to assassinate Adolf Hitler. There's also Reiner Braun, who has the same surname Eva Braun, Hitler's girlfriend, though I don't think he was actually named after her, he just has the same last name. I didn't notice anything else.

I doubt he said any of that, though. And if doesn't really work in context of the manga, though I'm pretty sure the manga very offensive to a lot of people for other reasons, just not because he thinks Japan should have an empire and the titans are mean ol' America. (And trust me, I'm still reading despite hating this manga now, so I'd love to have more reasons to hate it and him, but this story doesn't really work if you've read the manga.)

this comment is like 1000% incorrect but i don't have the energy or effort to go point by point.

so i'm just going to say that none of that shit was ever said by isayama. the main reason people were turned off of the series is because he is a known japanese imperialist and one of the latest manga arcs had a lot of wwii/jewish internment camp allusions.

also the only character with direct relation to a real person is commander pixis. (see: https://kotaku.com/a-thousand-death-threats-against-a-popular-anime-creato-631792221). the others were given largely germanic names as a theme, they're pretty common names and if they are supposed to be "named after nazis," he has never said anything like this.
