It doesn't bother me at all to have the gender made explicit, but I do enjoy when they play around with it in various ways. It adds a nice element of ambiguity, it's interesting, it's different.

What bothers me is when people change pronouns in cover versions / karaoke versions of songs. You're only allowed to change the pronouns if it makes the song more gay, everyone knows that, it's basic.

The most offended by a song I've ever been was when I heard a male cover of I Kissed a Girl and made sure it was as aggressively straight as possible. Aren't you a brave man, cheating on your girlfriend who, as far as we know, did absolutely nothing wrong.

It's been a few years and I'm still mad.
