I prefer the gender to be ambiguous because when I put together fanmixes, I only choose songs where everything fits so if the gender doesn't work for the ship, I don't want to include it, even though the rest may fit perfectly.

Same. I have entire playlists dedicated to my favorite ships and there's nothing I hate more than a song that's otherwise perfect but is about the wrong gender.
