People who've been in bad relationships, what did your friends do that helped?

(Anonymous) 2018-07-20 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I have so many friends who've been in bad relationships. Some only mildly bad (SO is a bit of a jerk, but not abusive or anything), others pretty bad.

If you were in that situation (whether really bad or just with someone you now realize was a tool), what helped? What didn't? Asking for both current and future reference.

My friends are probably the reason that I managed to get out of that relationship. When my toxic ex friend did something or said something that troubled me I would talk to trusted friends about it to figure out if I was just overthinking it or if it was a real problem.

When the sexual advances that I was uncomfortable with started happening they became very concerned for me and helped me figure out ways to get the heck away from them. I mean I still have issues left over from it , a lot of them boundary issues but I'm getting better.

I am very thankful to my friends' help and feedback about it.
