The population is overwhelmingly cis in general, why would Tumblr be any different?

Can't speak of all of it, but fandom tumblr has a lot of legitmate, not in a demeaning way, autism. Autism and gender identity disorders have been shown to be comorbid to an extent. This doesn't make their transness less legitimate or anything, but does explain why it's more prevalent.

I'd say it has less to do with autism and more with teenage exceptionalism. You have kids who are actually strictly trans and will be trans long term, being shadowed by kids who "feel like a girl and a boy" or "don't feel like either" or "are sort of trans" because they are a girl who doesn't like stereotypically girly things.

I'm 28 and I still don't know my sexual identity, but I've seen people who claim to have had it figured out at 5. Their experience doesn't invalidate mine.

Or maybe the rate of transness in the background population would be higher if it were socially acceptable
