I don't know how fic writers could do it any more than the movie writers. That's kind of his schtick.

I can see it being annoying if it's every other sentence in the fic, but... Wade does 4th wall-break a LOT in the comics, so as long as it fits with the scene, I can't see it being distracting to me.

I get ya. I hate how when people write Star Trek fic, they've always got the characters flying around in space and meeting aliens. :(

It’s something he does do a lot, yeah, but it’s nowhere near to the extent that some fic writers go for. IMO there’s absolutely a sweet spot that’s harder to hit than you’d think.

...Relatedly, there’s a scene in one of the comics (I think the 2016 ones?) where another character is impersonating Deadpool and his thought process is like LEMME JUST YELL CHIMICHANGA and wade’s reaction to that is p much this secret (“why does everyone think I have an obsession with Mexican food bordering on Tourette’s “ or something like that), it’s hilarious and totally perfect commentary without even NEEDING to break the 4th wall. That’s doing it right... 900 references to whatever’s popular at the time is overkill.
