nayrt but can we at least acknowledge that it's weird for grown-ass adults to be sexually attracted to fictional children, even if no one is harmed by it

I don't know how old OP is but I do recognize the importance of feeling like a better person than someone on the internet, so have at it. Won't someone think of the nonexistent children?

NAYRT but I don’t think “discouraging pedophilia” is the same as “affirming smug superiority.” On a meta level yes it’s a cartoon and not reality, no harm no foul. But if you are checked into the story and discussing characters and situations in-universe, immersed in the context of the show, yes you are allowing/conditioning yourself to be attracted to a child, and that’s no bueno.

i see this argument a lot but it's never applied to anything else in the same way? I don't want to be argumentative but I genuinely don't understand it. I don't see people saying you're 'conditioning yourself' to be OK with murder by watching 4 seasons of it on a show and enjoying it, or 'conditioning yourself' into being a zoophile by drawing porn of brian griffin or scrappy doo or something. Or conditioning yourself into approving of dubcon, noncon, etc, or conditioning yourself into bestiality via wanting to fuck a CG dragon. Steven is voiced by someone over 18 and written by a team of adults. I'd assume someone attracted to him likes qualities imparted on him by a skilled team of animators and artists who are trying to make you like their show.

I don't doubt some actual creeps wanna bone a cartoon, but I assume most people who like, wanna fuck naruto, just wanna fuck naruto because they've been with him on his narrative journey and like his ridiculous spiky hair and attitude. I dunno if 'conditioning yourself to be attracted to a child' makes sense? No more than, say, someone who likes a villain is 'conditioning themselves' to be attracted to abusive personalities and therefor inviting themselves to be hurt by people similar to the people they like in TV shows, or 'conditioning themselves' to be OK with being mistreated by 'romanticizing' evil traits. Sometimes you just like a fucked up thing for pretend and that's it. I mean, it's TV. We all love assholes and murderers and creepos who engage us in TV, and are appalled by them IRL, so I don't get why liking a cute cartoon character would mean you're psychologically destroying yourself into an attraction. I don't think attraction is that simple to manipulate, or else watching Game of Thrones would turn everyone incestuous.

small continuation, IG considering the popularity and historical significance in fandom of stuff like whump fic, hurt/comfort, fuck-or-die, and even the dubious-but-beloved concept of sex pollen & aphrodesiac, or drunk confession sex fic etc; I don't see how we all haven't 'conditioned ourselves' to be okay with a baseline of sadistic pleasure and romanticized impaired consent. Underage feels par the course and not uniquely special, since it's dealing with impaired consent as much as dubcon/noncon?

Agreed with all of this 100%

nayrt either but one, it's actually quite common in fandom for adults to be attracted to cartoon children, like, where have you been lmao. Two, how do you know how old OP is anyway? Most of the well-known FS commenters are adults, but that doesn't mean there can't be some teenage secret-makers out there.
