What would your ideal living situation look like if money wasn't a consideration?

They're all tested for reactivity around other dogs/small dogs/cats/other animals and it's recommended that you keep a close eye on them for a while and keep their muzzles on during introductions.
I'm not sure what the groups in your area are like and if you have the time and space to give both the cats and a dog the time to get to know each other, but it might be possible. Rescue groups will sometimes offer a trial period too. Maybe not if you have very anxious cats and having a dog around would cause them undue stress. :(
I joke that I got a dud greyhound because he has no prey drive even though he's been selectively bred for that trait. He doesn't chase, has no interest in small animals, and he likes to cuddle his toys rather than chew them. I'm still careful with introducing him to other animals but he has perfect manners and prefers to nap in the waiting room at the vet rather than watch their desk cat walk back and forth waving her tail at him. He will roll on his back and let my friend's tiny puppy beat him in a play fight. I don't really want cats but he'd probably like to be a kitten mother.

One cat, no ponies.
Re: What would your ideal living situation look like if money wasn't a consideration?
I want Bongo's dream house except not the pet octopus

I'd have at least one cat myself and of course whatever pets my friends bring with them. I'd live close to a mall complex or in a place close to one or two bus stops so I can get out during the day. And if money wasn't an issue i'd love to just be a full time artist tbh.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-26 12:37 am (UTC)(link)If ponies are compulsory I guess I’d need a livestock vet nearby and a barn and fenced pasture. I like horses and know the very basics of care but I couldn’t do it all myself. And I’d want a couple guest houses for people to come visit/stay if they needed to. I’d keep my house in southern California and rent it as a short term vacation rental so I could still visit friends and family here and afford to go on vacation to other countries.
Or I guess if money really wasn’t a concern I could maintain vacation rentals in London, Paris, Vancouver, and New York. Maybe Hawaii. And pulling in that much rent I probably could afford my dream house and not worry about money.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-26 12:38 am (UTC)(link)also a decent basement, because basements are always fun

Nearest neighbours would be at least a few km away.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-26 06:16 am (UTC)(link)- As eco-friendly as it can be made (water tank, double glazing and solar panels all definites), but still on the large side
- Outside the city but with decent internet and (very important) a large clear area around the house and multiple routes in case of bushfire
- Big kitchen, big oven, probably two freezers (upright freezer for day-to-day, freezer chest for long storage and backup supplies), walk-in pantry, solid marble countertops
- Maybe three bedrooms? Four if I'm having my parents live with me.
-- Also, if my parents are living with me, I want one of those neat little lifts, because my dad's disabled and stairs can be problematical for him.
- Walk-in wardrobe for the main bedroom
- En-suite bathroom for the main bedroom at least, maybe others too
- Enthusiastic use of sky lights
- Stained glass anywhere I can put it
- Recycled timber <3
- A really big, comfy bathtub. I might only use it once a month, but I want to be able to stretch out properly, damnit!
- I think I'd like a pool. I like to swim, and I'd probably spend half of summer in it...
- I'd like to have a productive garden (fruit, veg, herbs, etc.), but maybe only if my mum were living with me. She loves to garden, but I'm dreadful at it.
- I wouldn't mind a cute little pond, if I could somehow convince frogs to come to it and kookaburras to keep the fuck away
- I like real fireplaces, but I don't know much about the different financial/environmental costs/benefits of different ways of heating a house, so I'd want to find out about that before I made any decisions
- Maybe a little home gym?
- Library <3 <3 <3
- I'd probably adopt a few dogs or cats
Re: What would your ideal living situation look like if money wasn't a consideration?
Heh.
Actually, probably not, since i'm lazy and don't want to take care of tons of animals.
Ideally - living on the north-east or north-west coast, as close to the beach as possible. A green home - solar, maybe a windmill, a well, made from stone and as much reclaimed wood and salvaged fittings as possible.
Art nouveau style stuff, hangings and things. Central vacuum. Big, claw foot tubs enameled in colors, fireplaces.
No frigging neighbors, really good internet, bookshelves everywhere, lots of cats and 'cat highways'.
*happy sigh*
