The Doctor would be my second choice. So much knowledge and experience. I'd go with Eleven probably because he's filled with a lot of joy that is infectious. But any of the Doctors would be great.

Elrond. That guy has been through more than most and yet manages to be happy and well-balanced and generally just is wise and would be a great friend.

Hey, Philstar, I thought of you yesterday -- have you seen Jeff LaSala's essay "The Trial of Galadriel" ?

It's in Rocket Fuel, which is currently a free e-book from Tor. There are a lot of other great essays in the book as well, including Seanan McGuire's passionate defense of fanfiction (I'm about half-way through the book, and I've enjoyed most of it.)

Penelope from the movie of the same name would be fun to hang out with and is one of the only people I can think of that wouldn’t require plot armor. And speaking of plot armor...

Some versions of Batman—not Bale or Frank Miller Batman, though—because he’s got Alfred and sometimes various Robins/Batgirls/etc but not many people who know both his identities but don’t work for/with/against him and sometimes he needs a well meaning slap upside the head. Toothless, because he seems like a good friend and also I could maybe get to ride a dragon. Most versions of Merlin. Megamind, although he’d probably get on my nerves. Roxanne provided she’d already gotten together with Megamind so I wouldn’t be a collateral kidnapping or accidental explosion. The entire crew from the Ghostbusters reboot. I’d say Belle French but I’d be a jealous puddle of goo around her husband.

Seven of Nine, because she's awesome, smart and could probably be convinced to use some of her nanoprobes to cure my many, many chronic illnesses. Plus, we could commiserate over our difficulties in navigating neurotypical culture and in having to live among extroverts.

Also, she's tall and could get stuff off of shelves for me, because I am a hobbit who can barely reach the top shelf of the refrigerator.

I'd say Tony Stark because he seems to be very fun to be with, but he doesn't have a lot of free time, so nah.

Or William Bush from Hornblower. I'm watching the series and he's so cute and down to earth.

I'd pick Javert from Les Mis. He could use a friend, although I doubt he'd want one...but I think he could turn out to be an interesting company, if he'd allow it.
