There's a little bit of me that's always wanted to try cosplay. Not really so much the convention/social aspect of it, I've just seen some amazing character costume designs that I love the idea of trying to recreate in real life. When I was 11 I was obsessed with trying to get my mother to help me make some of the costumes from Cardcaptor Sakura.

There are so many pretty outfits in Cardcaptor Sakura! I'd want to do cosplay too, but I'm awful at sewing. My mom and grandma both tried really hard to teach me, but all I can do is sew on buttons. I'd love to do cosplay if I could save enough money to pay someone to make me a nice costume.

So many! I remember being fixated on the pink dress from the first opening and my mother talking about how she'd make the skirt and how many dozens of petticoats it would take to get the skirt to poof out properly. Sewing never really clicked for me either. So envious of people who do it well.

(super late reply, lol) Nah, she didn't. So it's one of those things I've kind of promised myself I'll do one day. :D

I would love to cosplay. I actually have a dream to someday cosplay an elf on a horse. Which would be a big step for me given that I'm afraid of horses and also probably weigh too much to ride one.

Glad I'm not the only one scared of horses. Like I've had actual nightmares about them. Everyone I know thinks it's hilarious. :(

I was thrown off a pony at a fair when I was a kid. Been scared of them ever since. I wish I wasn't, though. I'd love to be able to ride.

About the horse thing—at the time I didn’t weigh that much because I was a short kid, but my mom’s tall friend was afraid of horses so the first time I went horseback riding my mom’s friend got a pony she could almost get on by having it walk under her and I rode a Clydesdale I had to do the splits to straddle. I doubt you’re too big for a draft horse.

It's possible. Honestly, though, part of it is that cosplay is kind of a big weight loss goal for me. When I feel like I can actually look good doing cosplay? That will be awesome. I need to lose weight for health reasons. But thinking about the future doing cosplay is a motivator.

AYRT—I’m fat too, and also ugly and older than most of the characters I’ve dressed as. I’d love to lose weight for health reasons and to look better, but I’ve gotten so much shit for just existing while fat and ugly that at some point I just went “fuck it” about most things that don’t actually involve fucking. I’m too self conscious and scared to try dating, but I’m not gonna put all the rest of my life on hold until my BMI drops to 25 or under.

I’m still bad at sewing decades after I first learned the basics, so I wish I was more skilled—but I also wish I could afford more expensive materials. Recently I made a bustle gown out of $5/yard polyester and almost sweated to death while pining for the actual $500.00/yard silk. And while I do wear my costumes to conventions and for Halloween, mostly I just love cool outfits.
