See, I can't understand anyone not understanding it? Like, if you watch Quast perform "Javert's Suicide", he understands the character perfectly (he might be a bit more mad/aggressive than book!Javert, but it's theater, after all). With Russell Crowe you can tell he doesn't get it, this character's entire worldview has been shattered and he doesn't show it in any way at all.
