I don't get why people enjoy watching this show from everything I have heard about it. I get that disturbing and uncomfortable things can be meaningful, but this sounds absolutely miserable and painful to watch.

It is. Skip it.

Eh, the reasons why people watch stuff is complicated and subjective. Why do people watch horror movies and get scared? Why do people watch sad movies knowing it'll make them cry? It's just different strokes for different folks, that's all.

But if you don't like dystopian themes and awful things happening to people, then definitely skip this series.

This is true about the first couple seasons IMO - to counter an above comment, I love dystopian and dark themes but not when it's just disturbing concepts that aren't even well explored enough for it to feel worth it - but I found it better on average later on, even when it was still dark/depressing.
