At a certain point, it'd probably be better to just make a complete lookalike and forget about the original entirely. It's not like it would be that difficult to rip off.

IDK. Anne Rice strikes me as the litigious type. She's hard against fanfiction, that's for sure.

If she sends them a cease and desist they can just tell her she's interrogating the script from the wrong perspective.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-28 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL... I'd love to see that happen!

They could license Vampire and just do it that way

(Anonymous) 2018-07-28 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Theoretically, yeah. But IRL that's not likely to happen since the show is already going to be a thing.

From what I've read - if I'm remembering correctly - it's her son that's heavily involved, and not her?

I could be wrong, though.

And he seems to be as whacky about the characters as she is, so...not like it's any improvement.

Frankly, I'd about rather see *anything* other than this. Lestat/VC are just...done. For me, at least.

Looks like her son wrote the script but they'll both be executive producers. idk what that means, though.

Ah. Yeah, who knows? If we're lucky, not much.

Sometimes giving someone an exec producer credit is just a way to pay them for their IP and give them the illusion of control. It doesn't necessarily mean they will be in every meeting and weighing in on every plot decision. All of the producer titles are vague re: what the people that have them actually do. (Sometimes there are non-writing producers! I've always thought that gig would be awesome)

The only work of hers I've read is one of the more recent Lestat books. It's more than likely that missing out of thirty years of previous canon made it look all worse than it was, but the impression I got of him was whatever the hell you'd call a Gary Stu in an original work. Certainly well-loved by his creator.

for a second I misread and thought you were looking forward to the series BECAUSE Anne was going to be heavily involved in it and I thought - really? Oh me too! And then I realized you weren't looking forward to watching the trainwreck happened.

I agree--

Though as long as it doesn't look like Queen of the Damned, I am alright. I'll just take that series on Hulu with a grain of salt
