I recently watched the UK version and oh god, it's even worse.

I disagree...I find the UK office way better for this.

David is far less sympathetic than Michael, and that's a big part of it for me - I don't get embarrassed for people who earn bad things. If someone's simply awkward, not too bright, or confused (Michael), that gets me...if they're actively unpleasant (David)...yeah. Although even David managed to get me squirming a couple times.
