TMI famele stuff- doctor rant

[personal profile] philstar22 2018-07-31 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
So I had my surgery today. Finally. And after the doctor put in the IUD, when she looked around, guess what she found? Endometriosis. A lot of it. She said there was so much of it that even if a lot of it developed in the past two years, there would have been some two years ago. And that the only way the doctor who did the previous procedure specifically to look for endometriosis could have missed it is if she just looked at my ovaries and uturus and nothing else. Now, there is so much of it on and in my bladder, among other areas, that we can't remove it all. So we'll have to talk other options (The IUD should hopefully help some).

This is the doctor who didn't believe me and who only did the procedure and then only gave me the birth control shots when I started talking about cutting everything out (which she told me would not be an option at this age because kids, even though I made clear i don't want any).

Just really angry and frustrated. Probably overreacting given pain and exhaustion. But still. Not cool.

awww, that is sucky. I hate when doctors don't take that sort of thing seriously. I had to sit through a very boring pointless "counselling session" just in order to get my tubes tied, and I had fucked up, painful, heavy and much too long-lasting periods for DECADES before I was allowed to get the damn hysterectomy after that.
hugs if you want them.

I hate doctors who do not listen to their patients. I'm sorry you're going through this now and I hope you get better soon.

Urgh, oh man that's just shit. Sorry you've had to go through this but hopefully now something can be done about it.

Ugh, I'm sorry you're having such a rough time with endo. I've been there, shitty doctors and all. "No, we can't remove the source of your unending agony because you might want kids! Even though you've said repeatedly over the years that you'll never have kids and your chances of actually carrying one to term anyway are slim, we just can't take that chance. Here's some birth control that's supposed to help but will only make you feel even worse. Enjoy your years and years of pointless suffering!"

I really hope you're able to find a doctor who's willing to perform a hysterectomy, and I hope it happens soon. Just don't give up hope! I managed to find one four years ago when I was 28, and even though I've had about 80 hot flashes a day ever since and no longer have any heat tolerance whatsoever (due to PCOS I also had an oopherectomy, which basically put me in full menopause), it was still one of the best things that have ever happened to me. I would take a month-long hot flash in July while living here in this Florida swamp over even one more period like the ones I used to get. Blerg.

Hang in there!

Dear People who live with me: if you invite the guests, and I am nice enough to clean up all the common areas before they arrive, YOU ARE IN CHARGE OF CLEANING UP AFTER YOUR GODDAMN GUESTS!!!!! Seriously. graaah. Just vaguely not being home and "busy" immediately after their visit is not going to make me look at that mess and think "okay, guess this'll be fun to deal with". No, just ... no.
