Not to mention that cats don't have any concept of what is safe and what is dangerous. The cat isn't going to know that running across a four-lane street is dangerous because it's a fucking cat. It doesn't know that it could get killed if it sleeps under someone's car or goes into the backyard of someone who owns an aggressive dog or catches and eats a rat that ate rat poison. My friend's cat had to have surgery because it got into her purse and ate her earbuds, cord and all. Cats are not highly intelligent creatures when it comes to self-preservation.
