Right? Holy crap. I'm ashamed to say, when i was a kid, we had a lot of cats, because my parents didn't take them to get spayed/neutered, and except for a couple of them, they were pretty much a revolving chorus of kittens that didn't make it, young cats that would 'disappear', etc.

Hell, my dad once shot a fox because it was attacking the mom-cat, and an owl got one of the kittens one time.

Also - cats kill a *lot* of songbirds. It's better that they're indoors.

Exactly. Like, okay, some places don't have foxes and coyotes, I'll give people that. But they still have cars and dogs and people who put out rat poison and stuff that cats absolutely should not eat/roll in and places where cats can get trapped. Those things exist no matter where you live.
