They don't fail if their employees don't care. They're so big that they can have constant employee turnover with little impact to their bottom line. They give zero shits about you caring or being diligent, because that's probably not efficient. You are immediately replaceable the second you make it clear that you don't want to do more than you should be required to do, like work through breaks or illness or be available 24/7 for more shifts, if you're a human being and you need to pee and eat lunch and sometimes have a day off to get over gastro - you're out! They have more desperate people they can exploit.

They want to get the maximum amount of work out of you for the minimum amount of expense on their part, and it is very obvious that they give no shits about you. If you ever want to have the ability to care gradually drained from your soul, I highly recommend retail.

This. Pretty fucking clear that some in these comments have never once had a do-or-get-fired soulsucking retail job.
