I'm not the OP, but I had issues with it because you never even see the daughter's face. And the son is "the person Gordon loves most", which... well, it says something about the treatment of wife and daughter (and Harvey's thought process, but still.)

I was also saying that Batgirl is sometimes Gordon's niece, so if they have her in a third movie she could be a real dark horse, but I expect choosing the little boy was not only based on Harvey's reasoning but on the emotional reaction from the audience -- I know that scene brought me pretty close to tears. Besides which, the kid had appeared in previous scenes and the first movie, so it's probably more a continuity thing than anything else.

Or possibly Chris Nolan just doesn't want the Batgirl in his movies. Who can say? :P

I don't know. That scene made me go "wait-- the son is? But what about his wife? What about BABS? BABS IS RIGHT THERE, YOU DOUCHES." It's possible I'm just a nerd, though. I feel like they could at least have had scenes with Gordon kissing both of them good night, or something, where at least she was a presence, and not just the back of her head, you know?

Well, considering the Nolan!Batman track record for strong female characters...
