You can thank Supernatural. That is where it came from and got popularized.

Popularized, yes, came from? No.

This was happening in LotR and HP fandoms as well, not to the extent that it is now, of course, but it was there.

Well, a lot of the Teen Wolf fandom migrated over from Supernatural so it isn't an off the wall idea.

Same. I only found out about ABO fic from my friends who were into Teen Wolf. I never saw it in the part of SPN fandom where I was hanging out.

A little off topic maybe, but I love it when people actually cite sources in a discussion.

For some reason, I've read that entry like 3 times so I had it on hand.

I've sometimes wondered if some aspects of A/B/O can be traced back to Ai No Kusabi (points to icon), a dystopia that had strict caste system (based on hair color) of uber-semes and their "pets," with a third group (castrated "furniture") as the aides and major domos.

And I will never look at Ai no Kusabi the same way again...

I think it makes some sense though, right? The little I comprehend of Betas they seems analogous to furniture, and the cock ring that pets wear that give their Blondies complete control over orgasm release and denial...

The only other big migration I know is Sherlock fans to Hobbit fans (for the obvious reasons). I am actually REALLY surprised by how little crossover there is between Supernatural and Shadowhunters.

Yeah, they are both supernatural shows with a bunch of (teenage style) drama, close siblings who would die for each other, and pretty guys. Seems like they should mesh really well.

You would think!! I got nothing here. And now I'm kind of curious, lol, but not enough to go watch both shows to see if I can figure out an answer (HOW many seasons is Supernatural now?)

The most likely explanation is that the main fandom for Supernatural is of an age to be familiar with the Cassandra Claire shitshow in ye olde Harry Potter fandom days, and has written off Shadowhunters completely as a result.

Too many Supernatural fans who are also Harry Potter fans and remember Cassie Claire less than fondly?

I thought it was Teen Wolf fandom that started it all off?
