Is the suspension of disbelief any more than is needed fro the handwavy ~science~ that explain the supernatural in Teen Wolf or Supernatural, the metahumans/magic/time travel/everything in Arrowverse, the stargates/Ancients/universe(s) in Stargate, etc. I mean, yeah, it's pretty out there and relatively unsustainable in most fic I've read with it, but is it really that much harder to suspend disbelief for that versus mutants/zombies/metahumans/aliens/magic/etc. that exist in media now.

For me it isn't the handwavy science that bothers me about ABO, it's the power dynamics I find incredibly skeevy. I really don't like Fuck-Or-Die as a trope (or sex pollen, etc), and this feels like it turns it up to eleven. I think the basic idea lends itself to some really interesting stories about the biological imperative and how that influences making choices, and about making choices in general, which also ties into mental competence in a fascinating way.

That is something I have never, ever seen in an ABO fic.

All I see in ABO fics is porn, porn, and more porn, with humiliation kink (not my thing), mpreg (not my thing), and extreme power dynamics (also not my thing). I have zero judgment to pass on people who DO like ABO, because YKINMK, and far be it from me to tell someone else to have fun (tag so I can scroll past and/or filter and everyone is happy!), but I personally fucking HATE IT SO MUCH specifically because it appears to contain nothing but elements I actively dislike.

It's really not about the suspension of disbelief is the point here.

It says the suspension of disbelief is too much right in the secret. Like, I get that it's got things people really don't like in it. But I don't see A/B/O as being so incredibly different from any other kink or trope. People venting that it's not their thing, I get that. But people being so weirded out by its existence are baffling to me. It's not that complicated or inexplicable.

It's not complicated or inexplicable, no; it's tropey like pretty much anything else is tropey. I get it. I just don't like it and scroll past it when I find it, lol
