But Ackles isn't a writer or a producer. If they decide to make Dean's heavily hinted at bisexuality canon, Jensen will have to act it. Unless he has a specific "no homo" clause in his contract. Actors, more than anyone else on a set, have to be team players.

Sure. But I think at this point, he and Jared both have a bit of sway.

I just don't see it happening.

Yeah, they have "sway" but that doesn't mean they can change anything. It seemed obvious no one was happy about Charlie getting killed off, but everyone had to do their job and act out her dying. Actors are in a sense living props for the producers of whatever movie or TV show they're a part of. If you signed on to the project, unless you have a clause against it in your contract, then you have to act whatever is put in front of you. That's why acting contracts exist, so that actors and actresses don't get forced do something they don't want to do like they did in the bad old days.

There's been more than one story nowadays of an actor getting booted and even replaced because they refused to do something the script required of them or kicked up a fuss one too many times. Of course Jensen, Jared, and now Misha can't be replaced or written off but unless they want to cause a big to do and get lawyers involved and screw up their reputations, they'll act their parts as written. Supernatural won't last forever and they also have to think about their futures. More than one actor's career has got knocked down a peg or two because they have a reputation of being hard to work with. Just look at Katherine Heigl.

If the Dabb or whoever will be in charge of this show in its millionth season really wants destiel to happen, it's going to happen. Jensen will have to accept it like a big boy and act it out.

I just really don't ever see it happening, and some small part of that *is* the actor's feelings about that.

And literally no one that's *ever* worked on the Show/with the boys have had any issues with them of any kind, so i don't see them balking at one thing making their reputations suddenly crumble.

You have fun imagining it will happen - i don't really care one way or the other. I just don't think it will.

*shrug*
Really not that important.

I don't want to make it sound like Jensen Ackles is the only thing standing in the way of Dean and Castiel being endgame, because he's not, but it wouldn't surprise me if he has some version of a clause against it in his contract by now. Mark Sheppard, the guy who played Crowley, mentioned it during one of the cons back in 2011 when he was talking about how he was willing to do gay scenes, while Jensen and Jared weren't. I'll try to find the link when I have more time!

And Sheppard is now booted for good...

But seriously, thank you if you find it, this is very interesting.

I remember finding a short discussion thread about it on the r/fandomnatural community on Reddit and now I feel bad for not bookmarking it. I did, however, find the video where Mark Sheppard mentions the contract thing toward the end: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vjZKnULnh4

If I recall correctly, one of the fans had asked him about how he was able to get a picture of Crowley and Bobby kissing and if he could share some behind-the-scenes details of how it happened. I'm not sure why he decided to bring up how Jensen and Jared weren't willing to do kissing scenes with men (around the 2:20 mark), but it didn't seem to me like he was joking.

I do think Jensen has a history of throwing his weight around when it comes to the possibility of Dean/Castiel, whether it’s changing the “I love you” in Goodbye Stranger or flying all the way to LA just to sit and talk with Carver about something that upset him in the 200th episode.

That said, I don’t actually mind if people think Dean/Castiel could be canon. It’s not something I would personally die on a hill for. But it’s cool. As long as people aren’t bullying other fans or the cast about it, it’s perfectly fine.
