I grew up in a homophobic household and I do my best to be an ally now. My family has softened their views on gay people and wouldn't say anything negative to a gay person's face or vote to take away their rights, but will still sometimes make comments during Pride month. I understand that it's hard for them to completely change their views, but it still makes me sad to hear them talk like that. Being against slash doesn't necessarily make you homophobic, but it also depends on how we're defining slash (is it just non-canon pairings or do canon couples bother you too?) and if you're silently judgmental or if you're actively trashing people who are into it and it's bleeding into a dislike for real life gay people.
