When you take that quote out of context, yes it does make it seem like that's what it's saying. The point of the analogy was that slashing them is consuming/appreciating/connecting with the shows in a way that is so completely far afield from what their intention is. It's like Political Satire Appreciation: You're Doing it WRONG.
