103. Yes. Yes, Billie Piper is an ugly ugly woman.... -.- It can't just be that she looks, y'know, different than normal hollywood chicks? Honestly, that's one of the things I like about her--half the time, I don't care about actresses because I can't remember which is which. But honestly, I'm tired of these opinions. I've been tired of them since I was ten. Why is it that the spectrum for what is attractive in a woman is so much narrower than what is attractive for a man?

113. Oh, c'mon now, let the little ones have their fun. High schoolers do that, and then they grow out of it. I don't find X-men fandom any less wanky, for all that its populated largely by males, rather than tweeny girls.
But really, I think it's weaksauce to let a fandom actually make you hate something a lot.

116. See above. Wah wah wah, I hate things not on their own merit, but because of what other people say. Seriously.

123. That's almost refreshing. I'm not saying I agree (though I'm not 100% sure that I disagree), but it's at least a different sort of opinion to the ones I keep seeing.

127. OHMYGOSHDIDIMAKEASECRETINMYSLEEP?!?!
Seriously, I was about to do this, and then decided, it's not a secret for me--I'll whine about it all day long!
I love Johnny Depp, actually. But if he's in a movie, it becomes a Johnny Depp Movie. And I like these, they're lots of fun and all. But they're still Johnny Depp Movies. And BATMAN should emphatically not be a Johnny Depp Movie. It should be a Batman movie where the actors are appropriately less than the characters (part of what I really love about Heath's performance).
Plus, the Riddler is my freaking favourite Batman villian ever, and he needs to have the right ammount of pathos to him. Depp can't do that. He can do strangely quirky and all wonderfully. But he can not play the Riddler.
I could see Tennany at it better.
But my personal Pleasepleasepleasepleaseletitbehim actor choice for the role? David Hyde Pierce. Go, DHP, push that neurotic, effete, charming-yet-pathetic character!

147. I don't really see why anyone would compare them. It's just not the sort of thing. I will say I, personally, enjoy Sandman much more, and as a story, it's had a lifelong effect on me and influenced the way I percieve the world around me, while Watchmen was just a Good Story.

158. Ugh. Honestly, I'm getting more tired of people complaining about the fandom than the people who are "ruining" it (and I promise you, Harley-sues and tender-Joker makes me want to punch things as much as the next nerd). Batman/Joker? It's been around for ages. It's practically canon. I mean, not sexually, never sexually (ick!) but in a psychological way, it's been there for decades, and psychologically...it is kinda hawt. And the Joker? Yeah, sorry, he's hot too. Whether or not it upsets you that he's played by hottie-mc-hotpants-with-a-tongue-fetish in the movie doesn't change the fact that he was. As someone who grew up fiercely on the comics and Hamill!Joker (who was still one of my favourites, because if he showed up, we knew it would be a good episode), even I'm a bit under his charm.
Sorry that people are excited about the new thing out right now. Sorry that people found Heath!Joker attractive. Believe it or not, it doesn't mean they don't "truly appreciate Batman." I mean, let's face it--guys have been getting fanservice in comics since there were comics!!!!! Did it mean someone didn't "truly appreciate" Batman if he noticed and appreciated that Catwoman was really really hot in that black leather?

The double-standards, they amuse me.

I'm so glad theres someone else who spots that this is what happens with every movie he's in.

Ditto! I was trying to explain the no-ness of this to my friend who found the rumour in the paper, but he's this uber-laid-back Kiwi who's not quite as die-hard about geekery as I am. I thought maybe I was being paranoid, so I'm glad someone else made the secret.

I so want to see DHP do it like someone with OCD tendancies, quietly rearranging and nudging things in the background and all. It would be so good!

Lol, I love Niles like mad; he was usually my main reason for watching the show. So cute and pompous!
Though I wouldn't want Eddie to basically be dark!Niles. Ever since Begins came out, I figured that the Riddler in this 'verse would have to play as someone with OCD (though someone else made a case for hypergraphia, compulsive writing). I love Frank Gorshim's Riddler, and, by proxy, Carrey's homage to him in the movie, cheesy as it was, but I want to see a real Riddler.
Thing is, these movies have been so good about reinterpretting the characters to actually make sense in the world that it just seems a prerequisite--care must be taken. But the Riddler is my favourite, and he's so easy to get wrong, so I'm a little more obsessive with him than with the others.

Ah. That would make it a tad more understandable, I suppose. It's one thing to not let the internet fandom get you down. It's another to deal with it IRL.

103. I thought she looked like all those Hollywood girls. I went "bzuh?" when people said she's ugly. Either they're jelous or their standards are even more strict than I ever thought possible.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
She has "duck lips" or something. Actually, back when I first started watching, I thought she was pretty funny-looking, but after a few episodes, I kind of thought it was cute.

Believe it or not, it doesn't mean they don't "truly appreciate Batman."

Actually, it does. That's how fandom butterflies work - they come in for the pretty, then leave when something prettier comes along. If you can be laid back about it, more power to you, but I find that kind of behavior insulting to the source material. I have grown up with Batman, and Batman is something I take seriously, and to see people come in with comments like WHY WOULD RACHEL DUMP BRUCE OMG HE'S SO HAWT!!!!!13212!!!!! means that they don't care enough about Batman to understand the risks that a relationship with Bruce Wayne would bring into one's life. Why should I welcome these people into my fandom?

you first :)

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually it doesn't.

Your complaint seemed more general than twelve-year-old teeny-boppers who don't get the character because they're too busy saying that Bale is too hawt to break up with, and my response certaintly had nothing to do with them in particular. I said that people finding the Joker hot and being excited about the new movie and him do not depreciate the fandom any more than typical fanboys/girls getting a treat by whatever Taila is or isn't wearing this week.

The fandom butterflies are annoying. But the reaction is bugging me more because now it seems like if you dare to comment on the Joker being dead sexy in the movie, gasp! You're a tweeny loser who has no respect for the source material or whatever.

To be honest, in any fandom I've been in, it's the elitist people who feel like they should be able to judge who can and can't come into their fandom that detract from the experience far more than the quick flurry of fluffs. I mean, heck, I'm in Doctor Who fandom, and I'll say straight up, I would rather wade through a sea of the pinkest, fluffiest Wose/Doctah=Twu Wuv!!!111!! fans than deal with one grumpy fan ranting about how much they suck.

f you dare to comment on the Joker being dead sexy in the movie, gasp! You're a tweeny loser who has no respect for the source material or whatever.

I have no problem with people who comment on the attractiveness of the cast. It's when the new fans do ONLY that and don't bother to get into the fandom beyond the one movie with the SEXY ACTORS and yet talk about Batman as a whole (as opposed to Batman as he pertains to the Nolanverse) as though they are experts on the subject that they become incredibly annoying.

I would rather wade through a sea of the pinkest, fluffiest Wose/Doctah=Twu Wuv!!!111!! fans than deal with one grumpy fan ranting about how much they suck.

Then you're enjoying a lower quality of happiness in the fandom, tbh. Oh well.

I have no choice but to quote the Doctor:
"And with that sentence, you just lost the right to even talk to me."

Really? Really? You feel that you have the right to judge the quality of another person's happiness? You feel that's even possible, "tbh"? Oh, honey, you just lost every leg you stood on.

And if you honestly think that being around someone spewing vitriol about how much they hate "person/fan/character/writer" every time they talk about the fandom and the many ways they want them to die is the "higher quality of happiness in fandom"...you have some serious, serious issues.

I don't care that she looks different. Different is just fine if you ask me. I love someone who looks unique and isn't typical. But I dislike Billie. I think she's ugly and I dislike her.

Re: 103

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, so it's not really that she's ugly, it's that you dislike her, and here I must assume you're a girl, because with girls, our favourite way to indicate that a female celebrity is to say that their ugly, because that must be the worstest thing in the world.

Grow the hell up.
