I'm a fan of Batman to the point where I can remember the exact year I became one - 1989 when the first Tim Burton movie came out and channel four in the UK repeated all the 60s show and 1940s serials. To see people swarm around like the franchise like flies on shit just because TDK is the most "in" thing right now is pissing me off something stupid. I feel so posessive of the Batworld because I loved it before half TDK/Ledger fangirls were even born.

It makes me sad that these kids will drop the Batworld like a hot potato when the next "in" thing comes along.

People can be so shallow about fandoms but I truly treasure mine and the poser type fans who have no genuine emotional attachment to it annoy me to death.

Your first paragraph is so hypocritical. You basically said that the only reason you got into Batman was because the Tim Burton movie was in, but you hate everyone who's into it NOW because of TDK being in? lol. I don't like the influx of Joker fangirls either, but come on.

(I liked TDK a lot, but haven't made any attempt to get into Batman otherwise.)

Actually, I got into the 60s show first. I didn't see the Burton movie until it was released on VHS. The build up to the movie release might have been what drew me in but I was already a fan of other Batman stuff long before I saw the Burton movie itself, in the end. And I stuck with it - I didn't drop my love for the franchise once the media PR stopped.

Who's to say the people who are into it now are going to drop it? Sure, a lot of them probably will, but you'll probably get a lot that stick around too.

Why can't you people just be happy that your fandom has attracted a lot of new blood, in an awesome way?

New blood is fantastic - when that new blood sticks around for more than five minutes after the press blitz has died down. I might be cynical, but I've seen it happen before. People wander into a fandom while it's all the rage, offer one or two awesome contributions, then disappear once the hype dies down again. It's always disappointing.

Okay, and? The exact same shit happened to Final Fantasy VII with the release of Advent Children--and, unlike what I've seen of the new blood for Batfandom, the new fans of FFVII generally lacked talent. Be grateful your fandom isn't being flooded with steaming piles of crap.

And by the way, Batfandom is not a special and unique snowflake that deserves to have new blood that sticks around.

Batfan since I was three years old, when my family took me to see Batman Returns.
