It's a beautiful (if heartbreaking) painting, OP. If you want to get a print of it, you should and never mind what other people think. I have a print of my favorite Frida Kahlo painting ("The Broken Column") in my living room and the only people who really side-eye it are my parents because of the nudity.

What painting is this?

(Anonymous) 2018-08-11 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Ivan the Terrible and His Son Ivan by Ilya Repin.

Thank you.

Dude. It is gorgeous. Buy a print and put it wherever you like. It's actual freaking *art* - nobody is going to think you're a maniac.

Enjoy what you like!

It really is an amazing picture, isn't it? The look of horror and despair on his face is... oof, incredible.

(Anonymous) 2018-08-11 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Do it, OP. Hang it someplace more private if you need to, but honestly, it's art. Most people won't even notice, and it's not that weird.

I have all kinds of disturbing shit on my walls and a bottled fetus by the front door (latex; it’s a film prop). I use it to judge whether visitors are cool or have sticks up their asses. This painting would make an excellent sorting mechanism.

And no doubt sensible guests use it to understand that you think you are 2edgy2live, i.e. are completely up yourself, and give you a wide berth.

Cool, it detected a person with a stick up their ass.

LOL, mte! It works even online! :D

contrary to everyone else, if you really do want to tone it down, here's how:

- get it in a medium or smallish size instead of huge
- frame it in something that's not super flashy
- get one or two other pieces with a similar color story but without the violent associations
- arrange them on the same wall, with this painting not right in the center

then you have a tasteful combination of art with a variety of subject matter, instead of LOOK AT MY FAVORITE MURDER COMMEMORATION

(Anonymous) 2018-08-11 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, now I totally want to make an art display to commemorate my favorite murders.

(Anonymous) 2018-08-12 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
- don't hang it. Stand it on a desk or drawer or bookcase.

I love this secret, and OP that is a gorgeous painting and I hope you find a place to put a reproduction!

(Anonymous) 2018-08-14 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
It really is fantastic!
