What things do you like cooking?

(Anonymous) 2018-08-16 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
What do you hate cooking?

In general, I love cooking, and I hate baking. Baking is too persnickety and precise. Cooking, you can improvise more, especially once you learn some basic principles and flavor combinations. It's like playing jazz.

Favorite things to cook, anything Creole - jambalaya, gumbo, anything like that. It just makes sense to me. Also, pasta sauce - it's easy but it's relaxing to make, cheap, and there's an infinite scope of possibilities for what you can do with it.

If baking counts, I like baking bread and cakes. If it's just cooking, then I like making comfort food... soups and stews, that kind of thing. It's relaxing to have something simmering on the stove where the kitchen smells wonderful.

I hate cooking fussy, complicated things that require a lot of hands on work, tons of messy prep work, or things like that. The only reason why I do it is because I like the end result and it's too expensive to eat out all the time. Oh and I hate frying things because of oil spattering all over the place.

I love baking stuff. Especially breads. I hate frying things because I hate getting hit by hot grease.

I like cooking lots of things. Right now I'm into cooking curries and seafood.
I always like making desserts.

I hate cooking everything.
*sigh*

Processed and pre-made food is *so bad for me*, but i loathe cooking so fucking much.

Same. The only way I can manage to even cook occasionally is by reminding myself of that relative that suffered a long and painful death after their stroke throughout the entire process.

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Why can't we just have replicators? I'd eat like a fucking health-food rockstar if i didn't have to *fuck around in the kitchen*.

(I'm sorry about that - that sounds dreadful.)

This is basically me. I really admire people who do it well. My partner works as a chef and he was showing me how to 'flip' stuff in a frying pan and there was boiling hot oil splashing on his hand and he just looked so zen, like "this is normal and fine." While I basically cowered behind him wondering how people do this daily. His hands are so scarred and he's missing the tip of his little finger. Just. I wish I was hardcore enough for that.

HA, omg. I am not up to losing a fingertip, but i've had hot oil/fat pop on me. It's uncomfortable but bearable. When i *do* cook, getting burned (i always touch something hot) or nicked just...happens. Another reason i don't like it.

But mostly it's just the time and mess and prep - i don't want to be in the kitchen for an hour! I don't want to have to wash all the things twice - once when i've made the food and once when i've eaten the food!

Meh.

See, I love cooking but I hate fucking deciding WHAT to make. If someone would just make me a menu every week, I would cook so much more than I do.

Isn't that half the point of, like, Blue Apron and stuff like that

Re: What things do you like cooking?

(Anonymous) 2018-08-16 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
What's Blue Apron? We have things like Hello Fresh and stuff in Canada but shit like that is expensive as fuck and I live in an apartment so I worry about having stuff delivered (of that size) and not being home to receive it.

See, I love cooking, but I wish I ate more leafy green salads and stuff, and I hate how they don’t keep. My favorite leafy as opposed to cooked grain or pasta salad only lasts like two days in the fridge and it’s got a lot of ingredients that have to be prepped individually. At least in winter I can make veggie soups.

How odd. It's *very* tedious, i agree, to prep salad stuff (i've been doing that the last week for my lunches). But i've never had my spinach or 'Spring Mix' go off in two days.... Are you sealing them up tight in a container? Putting them in the coldest spot in your icebox?

I only cut what i need for that day so that the rest of the veg stays intact - I find they go bad faster when you cut them all up ahead of time, especially tomatoes and peppers.

Dunno why your veg is so temperamental! Good luck!
