Oh, good to hear!

(I love the non-shippy relationship between Sherlock and Joan on Elementary, but that's generally difficult to find.)

I'm honestly so shocked at this that I almost can't believe it's true

Well, so far they're not romantically involved but I wouldn't be surprised if the show heads in that direction eventually. SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS AHEAD The girl's love interest is gone by the time the first season ends, so that's one impediment out of the way. The boy's love interest is super cute but I don't have much faith in the show's ability resist pairing the two leads up sooner or later.

I agree. And neither seems to have a lot of friends, so it's nice to see them form a bond that's not romantic in nature. Though I would neither be shocked nor disappointed if their relationship did move in a romantic direction. Not because I'm particularly invested in the possibility... but because I've come to expect things like that from these kinds of shows.

is this show good

It's nothing to write home about, IMO. Interesting premise but low budget and an over-reliance on corny vision sequences.

I mean, I like it, but it's not without its flaws.

I watched a lot of soap operas back in the day, and enjoyed the teen dramas on Freeform, so this was right up my alley (though it wouldn't be fair to categorize this just as a teen drama). I admit I never got into the comics, so I have no idea how faithful this adaptation is.

Some things I find distracting, such as the way the boy talks. He slips in and out of an accent that the rest of his family doesn't seem to have, so I'm not sure what's going on there (but I don't want to complain about it if it's something the actor seriously can't help). Other times, there's a buildup to something... only for it to fall flat or be hastily resolved. But the character development is amazing. I've been completely drawn into some awful thing that a character goes through so many times. I like the parallels that happen within the story. I won't say anything about accuracy, but I also like how they explain a little bit of the history along the way. I'm enjoying the plot, and am glad there's going to be another season.

I haven't seen this but after reading this secret I feel pretty sure I'd ship it if I did. I always like the idea of "platonic soulmates" in theory but it almost never fails that I end up shipping them.

+1

m/f gets together->why do all m/f relationships in media have to be romantic
m/f stay strong friends->THEY'RE PERFECT TOGETHER

wtf brain, just decide what you want.

ultimately canon with platonic relationship and fanon exploring shipping is my favorite place to be, but not all people are content with ships staying in fandom or with platonic relationships getting shipped together at all.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm like this too, and I could never understand why until I realized that it was almost entirely because, when the characters' relationship turns from friends to lovers, the writers almost always start falling back on annoying stereotypes and tired tropes and the whole thing becomes about their relationship rather than who they are as people. Romances well-written can make a story pop, but romances poorly written (and romances where the character development takes a backseat to the makeout scenes ets) ruin stories.

Because in most canons when the characters get together they diminish the female character to do it. As long as the relationship remains platonic, she gets to be her own character and have her own goals/wants/needs.

yes, yes, yes!
