I gave the show a try. I can't. Such a terrible, terrible adaption. Just no. Road to Avonlea was nowhere near a perfect adaption, but it was in spirit of the books (up until the end, arguably). The original two Meghan Fallows movies were adaptions done right.

I agree with you completely-- the Meghan Follows were like my favorite movies growing up.

I haven't seen this one yet, but...unpopular opinion time. I wish the Megan Follows version also adapted the actual fucking books. The first one was close but the second one and especially the third were horrid.

The third one was pretty bad, but I liked the first two. They didn't stick to the letter of the books, but it certainly conveyed the spirit of the characters and setting far better than recent adaptations, IMO.

AYRT - If anything, I hated the second one more than the third. After seeing exactly how bad and far off the third one was, I accepted it as just a poorly written, OOC, AU fanfic version. But the second one was close enough to be obnoxious in how many liberties it took.

The way fans of the new series have been pushing it made me lose all interest I had in watching it. I don't have anything against a looser adaptation with darker themes, but all the fans are able to say about it is that it's so much better than the original story which is boring and sappy.

So thanks guys, instead of watching Anne With An E For Edgy, I'll go reread my "boring, sappy" books for the umpteenth time.

I gave the new series a try but... well, it's just not Anne of Green Gables. The books aren't dark and and edgy and they're not supposed to be. I'm not really fond of "adaptations" that veer so far from the original material that it might as well be a completely different project. It'd be like remaking Iron Man where Tony Stark is some random dude who's barely scraping by in a low paying retail job and is too dumb to program his own VCR.
