Wish fulfillment. Hermione is probably the biggest example.

Hermione was always supposed to be black, it has nothing to do with wish fulfilment. Nothing on the book suggests she's white.

I never read the books, did JK say she was Black?

(Anonymous) 2018-08-16 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
No. She said that hermione could be black, or anything the readers wanted. Not that she was definitely any particular ethnicity. This person is just trying to start a fight.

Nothing in the book suggests she's any ethnicity, specifically, and you know that, so don't come in here deliberately trying to start wank.

Except the illustrations JK Rowling approved.

And the ones JK drew herself.

(Anonymous) 2018-08-16 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Come on now

I don't even think you're serious but for the record: nothing (or at least, very little) in the books conflicts with her being black, even though that's not what JKR had in mind when she was writing

*looks at the official artwork on the dustcovers of her first edition copies*

There certainly is something ON the books suggesting she could be white. *innocent look*

"Hermione was always supposed to be black,"

Bwahahahahahahaha

Rowling DREW illustrations of Hermione as being white when she was working on the first book.

Not to mention when a character is not white she goes out of her way to specify it.

Wish fulfillment… in the sense that it is reasonable to wish to have characters like oneself as the hero/main character now and again.
