see the thing for me is that personally, I really enjoy racebending/genderbending art, and I think it's a fun and creative way to find a different angle from which to look at the characters. The issue in the Harry Potter fandom is that a lot of people have decided that their racebending headcanon is exactly the same thing as actual real canon, and will attack others or call them racists or throw temper tantrums if someone disagrees with that.

Attacking people for different opinions is always shitty and yeah it's always messy when someone clings to their version as the only true version. However everyone is free to interpret and invision a character however they want, especially in books where it's up to your imagination to form a picture.

Rowling doesn't seem to mind people seeing her characters as non-white so people really need to live and let live. People read books and see characters how they want to see them.

The problem is a lot of people can't "live and let live." If you think Hermione or Harry are white, you're obviously racist. Everything is a battle. Everything is a Hill to Die On. No one can just like things or dislike things without being an Issue that needs a Discussion.
