Eh, that's a fair comparison when the summary proclaims the fic to unbetaed, sure, but someone stating they're a new author is more like inviting your friends for dinner and telling them you're trying out a new recipe. It might be great, it might be okay but need the spicing tweaked, it might be a recipe you should never try again. There's really no telling before they taste it, and you've been upfront so that friend with a delicate stomach who wants to stay far away from experimental cooking can beg off.

No. That’s someone being a new author IN A FANDOM. Trying out a new recipe presupposes you’ve cooked before.
