I think one of the issues might be that fanartists that use it turn out pictures regularly on a schedule. Fanfic writers, on the whole, tend to be more sporadic with their chapter updates. I know most of the fanfic writers I know have ko-fi instead which is more of a tip jar than a monthly subscription. I'd consider otherwise if I was writing a long fic that I was updating several times a month and felt was a reliable read for my subscribers.
