Man, before stories are written, even Canon characters have no basis because the Canon is being written to give them that. This is where potential comes in. For me, I like looking at personalities and histories and asking myself 'what if?', because if they DID exist in the same universe and the writers explored that, what is the difference in a fanfic writer or me doing the same? Yeah it puts far more in the fans' hands and the potential for ooc is much greater, but in the hands of a good writer that has studied the characters quirks and motives? Gimme that shit!

I'm with you; it's the dynamics I love, skewing romantic but also just deep ~feelings, sex is of lesser importance and "purity" or whatever antis whine about these days isn't on my radar.
