I think the larger issue is the memory erasure & them being forced on people by the threat of a violent death, but on the other hand I haven't read any interviews with the creators so maybe they have shitty terrible opinions and I just don't know it

One of the creators said something about the game being a comment on drug culture and how people just take medication to feel happy all the time instead of learning how to value sadness. It was pretty disgusting.

That's disgusting. If I "valued my sadness" and stopped taking my pills, my bipolar would cause me to self-destruct in more than one way.
