AYRT: It's funny because I find the exact opposite to be true. First, a lot of fansites had specific themes, so you knew what kinds of fics you were more likely to find. Or there would be sections FOR those kinds of fics. Where now I find it's harder to do. Even LJ wasn't the best for that, because LJ fandom was often geared towards certain kinds of fandom.

On the other hand, I agree about socializing. I'm not a tumblr person, but I remember I felt I could be more "me" on LJ. I was constantly holding back from saying too much on forums, since I didn't want to take over the threads. LJ I was suddenly able to say everything on my mind, and then find out what other people had on their mind. And going "OT" wasn't an issue. So that's a plus. However, I still felt when there were sites, it meant I got the best of both worlds.

Yeah, I totally get what you mean here, the amount of content out there is kind of like a firehose and it can be hard to dive down and get the stuff that really matches what you're looking for

And same with socializing at times tbh, there's too many people and it's too easy to see and spread completely wild-ass shit

It's a double-edged sword
