I have less a problem with her not wearing a corset (especially since she still had a form-fitting dress and all and didn't need any "shapewear") and much more of a problem with Belle going around town with her skirt hiked up, flashing her underwear for no real reason.

I agree very much with this. That was so unnecessary and bizarre to me.

I also agree with OP’s very last point.

AYRT I got the feeling it was supposed to be some kind of statement, a la bloomers during the women's rights movement, but it just reminded me of accidentally getting your skirt tucked up in your stockings.

ITA, I hated that we could see her bloomers all the time because that's what they were supposed to be: her underwear. It didn't make any sense. Just have her had "odd" ideas about wearing men's pants that she got from some book she read and have her go around in pants. Add a lyric to the Belle song.

I don't think she needed to wear a corset (for a historically accurate silhouette, sure, but it looks like the movie wasn't going for historical accuracy) although I do think they could have designed a nicer dress.

True. The dress was pretty ugly. I understand they can't do much about the color but the design was ugly and the fabric looked like a cheap prom dress.
