I've tried both and prefer reddit, but then the fannish subs I've been in have been well-moderated and enjoyable.

Same. I'm mostly in small fandoms or ship rare pairs though and there's usually less drama in those circles to begin with. But Reddit is an easier platform to avoid the crazy than tumblr. I'm aware it exists but it isn't constantly infecting everything else.

Probably because subreddits actually have moderators whereas dumblr is a free for all.

The well-moderated LGBTQ reddits are a space where I can post an article on biphobia without getting mobbed by "radfems" and can properly use the word queer without being mobbed by "exclusionists." But the system as a whole is really problematic and I probably should quit.

EDIT: Peak tumblr discourse is a guy who self describes as a f*g hating on queer activist groups.

Agreed. I tell myself that when the alternatives seem to be few, it's either go without any interaction at all, or try to tolerate the best of a bad bunch.
