(Anonymous) 2008-08-13 02:20 am (UTC)(link)I disagree. 90% of his behaviour suggests to most (sane) people that he's not at all interested in sex. Things that please normal men do not please him. Are you familiar with the comics at all? He has a 'sexy' side-kick who adores him and he's just not that interested in her.

Even without Harley in the picture, the Joker is almost certainly asexual. The one thing that really gets on his obsession radar is Batman, and as fun as it is to see it played up like a psychotic lover (like in Dark Knight Returns), it still doesn't seem like something the Joker would do, even if he had Batman at his complete mercy and just wanted to torture him.
I think after what happened to his wife (I hold Killing Joke canon), that part of him just completely died. Sex doesn't have a place in his mind anymore.
And I say this as someone who thinks Heath!Joker is the hottest thing she's seen all year, and I'd slam into that (or at least the actor wearing that) like the fists of an angry vigilante.

Basically, he'd been a worker at a chemical plant, then he quit to become a stand up comic, but he was lousy at it. At the same time, his wife got pregnant. When you see them, she's fairly far along, five or six months, I think. He's wracked with guilt and self-doubt about the choices he's made following his dreams, and she's this warm, supporting force in his life that anchors him. Everything he's doing, he's doing for her sake and the baby's.
Including getting involved in a heist at the chemical plant he used to work at. The night it's supposed to happen, he's with the two thugs who talked him into it, at a bar, waiting for the right time, when two cops come to the bar looking for him, to tell him that his pregnant wife just died in a freak accident with an electrical short in a household appliance. He's crushed, and the thugs make him do the job anyway, Batman shows up, things go south, he jumps into a chemical vat to get away from Batman...
and the rest is history.
It's implied in Hush2 that she may've actually been murdered. It's less about what happened to her and more about what she meant to him.
That aside, as sexy as Heath!Joker is, I could never imagine him as a sexual being. He's just too weird, too other. If Nolan!Batman wasn't staying on the realistic side of things, I'd swear up and down that he's not actually human anymore, just a physical vessel for sheer chaos.
