Holder of a shiny medieval masters here, and agreed! Renfaires aren't accurate, but they are fun and fantastical. It's awesome for people who are interested in historical reenactment to have a chance to strut their stuff, but also for people who love fantasy-genre stuff.

(And honestly, people should think of it more in the spirit of medieval/Ren romances fantasy, which are full of magic and DEFINITELY not historically accurate. Like, who's ragging on Le Morte d'Arthur for not accurately representing the sixth century or whatever?)
