I enjoy yaoi and I enjoy slash. I'm a guy. I'm gay. Believe it or not, I'm far more forgiving of cliches and tropes in fanfiction than a lot of your 'sisters'. I am far less going to scream "you're not doing it right" than other female fans because I can put away the demand for "proper realism" and just enjoy good writing.

I've written using blood for lube. I've written fic that had people going 'are you sure you're a dude?' (LOL, yeah, I hold my dick in my hand several times a day when I take a piss. It's real.) I've written schmoop, fluff, romance, violence, down and dirty sex, gen, het...the list goes on.

I've never felt welcome in many of the comms I've joined. I've never really felt a part of fandom, no matter how hard I try to show that I can play with the best of them, write some pretty damn good fic, squeal and squee like the second coming.

Now I see why. [sigh]

Sorry, dude. I don't fully agree with the OP, I do like having dudes around (for that occasionally painful dose of realism).

I think what the OP has bad (and I have a little myself) is this ground-in impression that you have to be strong in front of guys. Even if they're understanding, even if they're supportive, if you get ~*~girly~*~ in front of a dude once, that's all they'll ever think of you again.

True? Probably not with most guys. But it's a fear.

I'm sorry you haven't felt included, and if you have a link to your fic I'm always interested in reading stuff written by someone with the actual equipment.

You know the funny thing? That unless the information is just blatantly wrong (someone once said on a comm that you couldn't reach the prostate with your fingers), realism just isn't high on my list of things that turn me on.

I dig the prose and how the written word moves me. I think it's beautiful and wonderful.

I guess because I wouldn't presume to judge anyone on getting squealy and 'girly' (as I'm prone to the squealy myself), it never occurred to me that someone would think I would. [laughs] Ah well.

[livejournal.com profile] blowing_my_load is my fic journal. Be warned that I am all over the map as far as fandoms are concerned. I just hope I don't disappoint since I'm rather loose with realism myself at times. Again, I'd rather the prose be pretty, the sex be hot and the plot be engaging so I am very forgiving of a lot of leaps of realism.

Well, you've got Fast and the Furious fic, I'm game! (I admit, I never saw Tokyo Drift. The franchise lost its charm for me after He who is Bald and Goofy left, but hey. Cars.)

You know...I have season one on my HD here somewhere and the first couple of books. I've been waiting for the work schedule to let me breathe. Perhaps I should wrangle it out of my work schedule.

Oh, yes, that work thing. *shudders*
Be warned that the TV series is a whole different animal from the books. I love them both, but there's differences, and you can have a few moments of pinball-tilt if you go into one right after the other.

But they're scenic? (Okay, the TV is scenic, the books are hypothetically scenic.)

*stops fandom pimping now.*

I hope you find a comm where people are a little less paranoid. Fandom should be fun and inclusive.

I´m sorry, I didn´t think a gay guy would be forgiving of all the cliches and silliness. I thought you would be secretly laughing or rolling your eyes, looking down on us the fangirls.

I can see why you'd think that. I'm sure it happens. I do understand. Just remember that it happens among the female writers, too, and with far greater snark at times.

I'm sad that I'm not even given the chance, that just showing up sends people running for cover. But I guess it explains quite a bit of what's happening. [shrug]

Just going to say, I don't agree either. Anyone who is comfortable with the conversation is welcome in my book.

As for the whole realism bit -- it should never get in the way of hotness. If it's so weird and ridiculous that it breaks my suspension of disbelief, yeah, not so good, but if I'm reading fic for a show that outright breaks the laws of physics, I'm not going to sweat the socially improbable.

That really blows. I'm sorry you feel excluded. =/ I know at least two guys in my fandom I like to consider myself pretty good friends with -- one of them is into slash, and I don't think I've ever treated him any differently than the girls (hell, he's the one who got me into the fandom), so...you could totally come hang with us sometime. ^_^
