(Anonymous) 2008-08-14 04:02 am (UTC)(link)Well, I can't speak for other Maya supporters, but I know I only suspect a Maya basher of misogyny when the main reason for her hate seems to be "OMG! That person with a vagina dared to be attracted to one half of my OTP?! DIE SLUTTY BITCH!" Or something along those lines. I have far less of a problem with people who dislike Maya because they didn't care for her storyline or Ramirez's acting. I don't necessarily agree with them, but different strokes for different folks.
In any case, to hate a character because of comments made by a bunch of random people online is so silly I can't really even put it into words. Seems to me that if you want to be angry at/hate someone, it should be us, not her.

Logically, you're right; but emotions aren't logical. What happens is there's this extra layer of irritation whenever the topic comes up, so that not only am I being annoyed by the bad writing, but also all the memories of how everyone says "oh, you ship Mylar, so you just hate her because you ship Mylar". Dude. I am 44. I know that if I ship something slash, chances are on screen, there will be a girl in the way. And yes, that's annoying, but the DEGREE to which it annoys me is definitely dependent on the girl in question. I ship House/Wilson like FedEx, but I LOVED Amber. I ship Mylar, and I hate Maya, because unlike Amber, Maya's badly-written.
I just think there are a lot more people who hate her because of the bad writing.
Also, I don't think disliking a character because they interfere with your OTP is necessarily tantamount to omg misogyny. If Sylar got with Peter, and not Maya, I'd find that MORE annoying because if they were willing to let him be gay, why with one of the lamer boys instead of a cool one? I wouldn't have minded Candace as much as Maya either. Basically, if TPTB are going to break up my OTP, fine, they can do that, but I want it to be with someone at least comparably cool.
