That part was played up so ridiculously sexually. It was more like undressing in reverse than it was like dressing.

Mostly it just made me bawwwww though, because way to be a misogynist, Whedon. Penny only existed as a fighting point for Horrible and Hammer, she was one-dimensional and treated as an object in the storytelling.

Yeah but the thing I have with the whole Penny thing is, does every story have to center around a woman? If this was Penny's triumph over dating rotten men, it wouldn't be remotely the same story. But this story isn't about Penny -- it's about Dr. Horrible and how he won everything he thought he wanted at the cost of everything he truly did. The way I see it, at least she had a personality, a backstory, and a philosophy of life (even if none of them are as tough as nails as some people would prefer), which is more than was technically needed to be just a fighting point.

Oh, come on. Buffy was the most feminist show I've ever watched. You can forgive Whedon and Co. to make a little webshow about a guy with just a love interest, can you?
And personally, I think that it's not that Penny was one-dimensional, she was just ignored by the others. Even Billy who loved her never understood her, he kept saying he'd show her how evil is he when the girl helps the homeless! And Hammer just wanted to have sex with her.
