Anne with an 'E'...

[personal profile] tabaqui 2018-09-09 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I started watching today and...it's okay. Not totally aligned with the books and a bit...modern in ways that I don't think quite work.

But the best thing? Real snow. I hate how snow is portrayed, at least lately, on a lot of shows: white, fluffy paint or something that's sprayed over every inch of everything, up to about six feet high. Trees, buildings, everything. It's so freakin' weird.

I haven't seen it, but I feel you on the snow.

Real snow is wet and cold and heavy.

"Real snow is wet and cold and heavy."

Are you Anakin Skywalker's evil twin?

And real snow *melts* - thus, you get wet. All these people wandering around with snow all over them that never melts, and they never have wet mittens or hats or hair or anything. Too weird.

And when it melts, the landscape doesn't immediately go from white to green, there's a brown, muddy phase in the middle.

YES. And lots of gross, muddy snow-ice mess and endless mess on shoes and floors.

Also? None of these people wear enough clothing. It's cold enough to freeze and snow, the wind is screaming along, and they have no hats, open necked shirts, a light coat, no gloves...wth? This is CANADA!
They should know better.

I wasn't so fond of the books (I know, I'm evil) so I haven't watched it but the other day someone said they loved the show because it has LGBT representation. They may have been referring to more recent episodes though.

I enjoyed the books, but they do take a certain mind-set. Some of the attitudes and whatnot are a little hard to swallow.

It does seem to, yes; I've only seen the first...six episodes, i think? And so far they've discussed a 'spinster lady' and her life-long companion and how they were 'best of friends forever and ever' and never married. It's treated as lovely and romantic and *of course* the woman is grieving her loss, now that her 'companion' has died.

Who knows, there might be more to come!
