Again β€” referring to someone as having mental retardation is not the same as using retard as an insult. It’s two different things.

I wouldn't say that it's hate speech, but this kind of hyper-specific parsing is rarely very convincing to me, because I think in actual usage the terms almost always just blend together anyway and it's probably better to avoid the word altogether.

It's not like it's a uniquely valuable or expressive word.
