I always admired her in that story in particular, because she was doing this all on her own. Holmes and Watson were together across the road, but she was essentially crawling around on her own waiting to get shot at. She took all precautions, yes, but if the bullet had gone through the dummy and chanced to hit her, there was basically nobody in the house to help her. If she'd gotten hit, there was a decent chance she was dead before any of the dozen odd detectives and policemen across the road even knew about it. But she did it anyway, because her three-years-dead lodger who'd just given her a heart attack by showing up like a bleeding ghost asked her to, and this way he got to come home.

Don't nobody diss Mrs Hudson!

(Also, mean feat, if you're still curious. Fete is the party, and feet are the appendages. I know the feeling. It's amazing how we can get all the long complicated words jut fine, and then have a complete brain fart on the short easy ones, isn't it?)
