How can you “do” a number? I know it’s a song lyric, but it always sounds so stupid to me. Just knowing those first two lines, I half believe the song is a statement about how orgies are better than monogamy.

My grammar sucks so this will be hard to explain, but it's 'do' like...'a thing you are', like 'I don't do negativity'. Or a state of being. So 'doing' one means living a life that is solitary/alone/single. I have no clue what you call that in a sentence.
